Workshop Information

If your team has a regional workshop coming up you’ll want to be sure to review all of the information included below!

Emails and Firewalls

Everything here has been or will also be emailed to registered team leaders, but we understand that aggressive spam filters and firewalls at schools sometimes prevent our emails from getting to everyone. If you did not receive any emails, please contact us so we can get you all the information you need.

RSVP!

It’s very important that all teams RSVP prior to the regional workshop to let us know that you are coming. Remember up to 3 people can attend the workshop. Please email Marci Corey (mcorey@kipr.org) at least one week in advance before your workshop.

Laptop Computers

Please remember - you need to have administrative privileges to install new software on any laptops you bring to the workshop. Be sure to check with your school's IT department and make certain you have the passwords and privileges you need to do this!

Team Home Base The Team Home Base (THB) is now open! Prior to the workshop you can log on and check out the Botball Resources area of the THB. You should use your team code as the user name and the password that was emailed to you. If you did not receive your password, please contact Marci Corey (mcorey@kipr.org) and she can re-send it to you.

After the Oklahoma Workshop in January, we will have the workshop and game documents available to all teams on the Team Home Base. BEFORE YOU COME TO THE WORKSHOP you need access the Team Home Base (http://homebase.kipr.org/) and download all of the "Workshop Documents", "Game Documents" and the KISS software onto a flash-drive or the computer you are bringing so you have all the files before you arrive.

Tournament Information

At the Botball Regional Tournament, students will get the chance to showcase all their hard work by competing in an autonomous robotics tournament. It's a great opportunity for students, team leaders, mentors and parents to network and interact with others who share an interest in educational robotics.

Seeding Rounds

Seeding rounds take place before double elimination. There will be three seeding rounds for each team. In seeding, teams play the game unopposed, but both sides are scored since a team may score points for the other side. The seeding round score is (your side score) - (opponent side score). During seeding rounds your opponent’s score will always be zero unless your team scores points on your opponent’s side.

D.E. Rounds

A team is out of the double elimination tournament when it has lost two games. Initial matches are decided by KIPR tournament software using seeding round scores. Matches and table sides during a tournament are determined as the tournament progresses using KIPR tournament software. The two teams for a match play each other and the highest score at the end of the game wins (subject to tie-breakers and special scoring conditions). Double elimination scores do not affect ranking, only wins and losses.

Alliance Matches

At selected tournaments, if a team is eliminated from the double elimination tournament before the finals of double elimination play, that team may sign up to play in alliance matches. Alliance matches will pair up two teams to play the game collaboratively with the goal of scoring the most points. Each team will bring one robot to the table to run simultaneously. The teams will place their robots in any of the starting boxes (i.e. both on the pink side, both on the teal side, or split between the pink and teal side).

Public transportation is recommended, since there is no parking lot at the school and street parking spaces are typically unavailable. There are public lots on 15th and 16th between 5th and 6th avenue; however, they are expensive.
