Benefits for Students

Botball is an educational and public outreach program for middle and high school students that capitalizes on young people’s fascination with robots, by helping them experience the excitement of learning on their own, create something meaningful, and use reading, writing, critical thinking, science, and technology to solve a real-world problem.

Through the acts of designing, building, and programming robots, students begin to comprehend how we use the tools of planning, teamwork, science, math and technology to accomplish creative projects and learn about the world. In so doing, they learn time and project management as well as leadership and organizational skills. Maintaining the required documentation of their robot-building project helps students to develop their reading and writing skills to achieve meaningful communication with their fellow teammates and the judges who score the documentation.

Any middle or high school aged student can participate in the Botball Program. The organization of the team is up to the adult team leader. Many different groups use this inquiry-based program.
